Guided Bird Walk: Grasslands & Spring Canyon, Fri & Sat, Jan 17 & 18 8-10am. Free. Mission Trails Regional Park East Fortuna staging area, Mast Blvd @ SR-52, Santee. Join MTRP bird walk leaders for a guided bird walk in the Grasslands and Spring Canyon area of the park. We’ll look for hungry hawks that like to frequent this part of the park as well as sage-scrub species. The Saturday bird walk is designed for beginning or newer birdwatchers, but all skill levels are welcome to attend. Meet in front of the Ranger Field Station in the East Fortuna Staging Area off Hwy. 52 and Mast Blvd. in Santee. Bring binoculars if you have them. Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, and bring along water. A hat and sunscreen are also recommended. Walks are canceled if raining.
Guided Nature Walks, Sat & Sun, 9:30-11am. Mission Trails Regional Park. Join a MTRP Trail Guide on a guided nature walk and learn about the plants, animals, geology, history, and ecology of the park. The trails used are easy, but have uneven surfaces and some involve steps, so be sure to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and bring along water. A hat and sunscreen are also recommended. Cooler temperatures make for a great experience. Walks are canceled if raining. mtrp.org
